GPT-6 in ChatGPT: What’s New and Which Plan Gets What
GPT-6 is now in every ChatGPT plan. Here is what Intelligent UI does, which GPT-6 model each plan gets (Astra, Sol, Luna) and whether it is worth upgrading.

On this page
OpenAI's GPT-6 is now the default model family in ChatGPT for everyone, including free users. The biggest visible change is Intelligent UI: instead of only writing paragraphs, ChatGPT can now answer with charts, maps, buttons, forms and small interactive tools when that explains things better.
Here is what changed, which version of GPT-6 you get on each plan, and whether it is worth paying for an upgrade. Facts are from OpenAI's announcements as reported by the sources listed at the end, checked on 2 November 2026.
The short version
Free and Go users get GPT-6 Luna. Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise get GPT-6 Sol. Both include Intelligent UI. The most capable model, GPT-6 Astra, is reserved for paid users. You don't need to change any settings: the new model is already the default.

What is Intelligent UI?
Intelligent UI is a new way of presenting answers. GPT-6 decides, question by question, whether a reply should be plain text or include visual and interactive pieces such as:
- Charts and side-by-side comparisons, for example when you compare phones, plans or prices.
- Maps, for example when you plan a road trip.
- Diagrams you can tap through, for example when you ask how something works.
- Buttons, forms and small tools, for quick follow-up actions.
When plain text is the clearest answer, ChatGPT still answers in plain text. OpenAI says GPT-6 was trained to choose layouts and judged on clarity, usefulness and completeness, and admits its design judgment still needs work.
Faster answers on web searches
According to OpenAI's internal tests, the new GPT-6 Instant starts answering web-search questions 44% sooner than GPT-5.6 Instant, because it can begin replying while it is still searching and reasoning.
What else is better in GPT-6?
OpenAI positions GPT-6 as a big step up in coding, maths, science and professional work, and in operating a computer or browser for you, with example tasks such as filling in tax forms, running job searches and ordering food. As always, treat vendor claims as claims: the real test is how it handles your own work.
There are also safety questions. OpenAI rates GPT-6 as "High capability" for cybersecurity and biology risks in its preparedness framework, and the most capable Astra version launched with extra restrictions on cybersecurity prompts.
Should you upgrade?
Upgrade to Plus ($20) if…
- You use ChatGPT daily for work, study or coding
- You want GPT-6 Sol instead of the lighter Luna model
- You want no ads and higher message limits
- You use Deep Research, agents or image generation often
Stay on Free or Go if…
- You only ask a few questions a week
- Luna with Intelligent UI already covers your needs
- You do not mind occasional sponsored results
- You mainly need a writing or Google-apps assistant (compare Claude and Gemini first)

FAQ
Is GPT-6 free in ChatGPT?
Yes. Free and Go users get GPT-6 Luna with Intelligent UI. Paid plans get the stronger GPT-6 Sol, and Pro adds GPT-6 Pro (Astra).
What is the difference between GPT-6 Astra, Sol and Luna?
Astra is the most capable (and most restricted) version, Sol is the main model for paid ChatGPT plans, and Luna is the lighter model used on Free and Go.
Can I turn off Intelligent UI?
OpenAI has not documented a switch. ChatGPT decides when visuals help and falls back to plain text otherwise. You can always ask for "plain text only" in your prompt.
Do I need to do anything to get GPT-6?
No. It rolled out automatically on 7–8 October 2026 and is the default model in the Chat tab.
